Heather Raffo's 9 Parts of Desire
Co-Produced by Cygnet Productions and CoHo Productions
Directed by Louanne Moldovan and starring Luisa Sermol
Heather Raffo's 9 Parts of Desire tells us, in eloquent language, what it is like to be a contemporary Iraqi woman. Set in Baghdad, Basra, London and New York City, this one-woman play is a collective portrait of nine women of Iraqi heritage. Their voices are a study in contrasts: vivid and subdued, sophisticated and naive, seductive and standoffish. Some of their stories may shock, but you wont soon forget them. This lyrical, moving play won a 2005 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize Special Commendation, and the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Solo Show. It is stunningly good theatre, both beautiful and brutal, and a potent reminder of the touchstones of humanity, love, fear, anger; and most of all, hope.
